Weather

The most dependable feature of Hanoi’s climate is its changeability. It has four seasons – the best being spring and fall. For the rainy season carry a raincoat and ‘deps’ (rubber sandals) in your bike or car. You never know when a flood will force you to walk through knee deep waters. In the summer drink lots of water. Dehydration and the resulting headaches are a potential problem. The winter is cold and damp. The record low temperatures in February 2008 will go down in history and old hands can regale you with stories of bundling up in layers of clothes and thawing out in late March. Heaters are available but most houses weren’t insulated with 4 degree temperatures in mind.
